Ryan Miller. The goaltender for the Buffalo Sabres! A true hero in our town!
I composed this oil painting on my Christmas break. I was also working on other commissioned drawings while I was working on this project, so i had to take time off to finish it, but I did finish it within the time frame projected!
This is my first realistic-type painting, however the painting is painted heavily with many brushstrokes and there is alot of color blended to create other colors.
I used silver oil paint that cost me a little more than $25.00 for a small tube. It contains aluminum, so it was very expensive.

You can also check out the feature on Ryan Miller's Website, [link] with my painting in the Lifestyles section [link] This website is hosted through NHL.com, so I was very excited to see that my artwork made it such a long way, especially to help a good cause!
Nice! I like how you can't see all of his face, partially because of the dramatic effect it creates, but also because with a face as gorgeous as his, you might as well see all of it or none of it at all
anyway, on a more serious note, the degree of blending ads an extra sense of realism. And the use of silver paint! typically, I'm not a fan of any lustre media, especially if it's to be experienced in a second hand manner, such as over the internet. But you pulled it off well here! I really get the sense of the texture and sheen of the wire on his mask. I think it's success is because you used the shading on the underside of it...Too many times have I seen people trying to evoke metallic things by relying only on a lustred medium, and not taking into consideration how the light and shadow plays around it
Bravo

Oh! I forgot to add this in my original comment, but if you ever got Miller to autograph that, and then sold it, you could retire right now

WOW! Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate all of those words! Recently, I sent this image to Ryan Miller's Cancer / Leukemia Foundation, The Steadfast Foundation, [link]. I received a response from Dean Miller, Ryan's father, we might be marketing this image through selling prints, autographed & framed from his website! I hope everything goes well! I really thank you for everything that you said! It's an honor to hear someone say such great things about one of my artworks! Thank you!
